Four Great Activities to Try when It's Too Cold Outside

Posted on 01-10-2017

When it’s too cold to go outside, but your little ones still have so much energy to spend, how can you keep them from tearing the house apart? Here are 4 great ideas!

1. A scavenger hunt

Make a list of 8–10 little things that they can find around this house. Include things like a spoon, Crayon, little green army guy, and a toy car or baby doll, and watch them run to go search for the listed items. You could even draw a picture of each of the items for them so they could go and search by themselves!

2. Tent in the house

This one will use up so much time as their imaginations run wild as they hide out in the little tent. They could be camping in the wilderness, or turn the tent into a princess castle. The options are endless! Just let them hide out for as long as they like. You could even let them have a lunch picnic in the tent!

3. Puzzles, play dough, coloring books, water coloring, or finger painting

These might take a little bit of adult supervision, but for the most part they can do these on their own. Just prep the area a little ahead of time to make sure that you don’t end up with finger paint all over the walls. Puzzles and coloring books are a great way to learn and play at the same time with minimal effort from you.

4. Make paper snowflakes

You can help them cut them out, and then they can color them on their own! There are so many adorable ideas online that you can find for inspiration. Make paper snowflakes or paper dolls and let the coloring begin!

Your child will probably enjoy any activity that you are involved in too, so spend more time investing in them instead of time in preparation for these crafts. Kids don’t need fancy, they just need quality time and love!
